2025年3月31日、アメリカンスクール・イン・ジャパン（ASIJ）にて、映像作品『少女たちが未来を変えていく（She Creates Change）』の上映会を開催しました。
ASIJの皆さんには、長年にわたり保護者をはじめ学校全体でルーム・トゥ・リードの活動をご支援いただいています。グローバルな環境で学ぶ子どもたちの中に、「世界の課題に向き合い、行動する力」が日々育まれていることを感じています。
今回のイベントは、2024年に行われた初回に続く2回目の上映会として実施されました。対象はGrade 3（小学3年生）の子どもたち。ASIJの探究型学習プログラム「チェンジメーカー」の一環として企画され、創造性や社会課題への関心を育む貴重な学びの場となりました。
冒頭では、ルーム・トゥ・リードのスタッフが登壇し、世界における教育格差の現状や、ルーム・トゥ・リードの識字教育・ジェンダー平等教育への取り組みについて紹介しました。その後、スリランカの少女・デュミニの物語が上映され、生徒たちは彼女の力強い歩みに心を寄せました。
上映後は、「なぜ彼女は変化を生み出せたのか」「自分には何ができるだろうか」といった問いかけをもとに、物語に対する理解を深めながら、自らの考えを広げるきっかけとなりました。
ASIJの皆さんの継続的なご支援と、「学びを行動につなげる教育」に心より感謝申し上げます。これからも世界中の子どもたちとともに、教育の力でよりよい未来を築いていけることを楽しみにしています。

On March 31, 2025, a screening of She Creates Change was held at the American School in Japan (ASIJ).
For many years, ASIJ has supported Room to Read’s work as a school community—including the active involvement of parents. We continue to be inspired by how students, learning in a globally-minded environment, are developing the ability to recognize global challenges and take meaningful action.
This was the second screening of She Creates Change at ASIJ, following the initial session in 2024. This year, the event was designed for Grade 3 students as part of the school’s inquiry-based learning program, Changemakers. It offered a valuable opportunity for students to explore creativity, empathy, and social issues through storytelling.
The session began with a brief presentation by Room to Read staff, introducing the global disparities in education and the organization’s efforts in literacy and gender equality education. Following the introduction, students watched the powerful story of Dewmini, a young girl from Sri Lanka who overcomes challenges to create change in her community.
After the screening, students reflected on key questions such as, “What helped her create change?” and “What can I do to make a difference?” These conversations allowed them to deepen their understanding of the story and consider their own potential to contribute to a better world.
We are truly grateful for ASIJ’s ongoing support and commitment to education that empowers action. We look forward to continuing to work together toward a more equitable future for children around the world through the power of education.
