Room to Read Japan will again participate as a recipient organization in the Tokyo Marathon 2024 Charity, which will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2024!
世界中のランナーを魅了してやまない「東京マラソン」。2024年の東京マラソンの走行権を確保すべく、東京マラソン2024チャリティランナー応募期間（6月後半～7月初旬）には世界中のランナーから応募や問い合わせが殺到しました。厳選なる抽選の結果、ルーム・トゥ・リードでは当初予定していたスロット数に加え追加スロットを確保し、世界25か国から150名のチャリティランナーを迎えます！
The Tokyo Marathon, which never fails to captivate runners from all over the world, has attracted a surge of applications and inquiries from runners around the globe during the Tokyo Marathon 2024 Charity Runner application period (late June to early July) as they strive to secure running slots for the 2024 event. As a result of a rigorous selection process, Room to Read was granted extra slots and will welcome 150 charity runners from 25 different countries, exceeding our initial plan！
ルーム・トゥ・リードは、東京マラソン2024チャリティランナーからのご寄付を通して5,000名の子ども達へ教育を贈ることを目標としています。
Room to Read aims to provide education to 5,000 children through donations from the Tokyo Marathon 2024 Charity Runners.
チャリティランナーは自分自身での寄付の他、ルーム・トゥ・リードが提供するクラウドファンディングページを通して寄付を募ったり、企業マッチングを駆使したり、バンド演奏等の趣味や特技を通して寄付を募ったりと様々な方法で5,000名の教育支援という目標達成に向け、挑戦を続けています。
Charity runners are actively pursuing the goal of supporting education for 5,000 children through various methods. In addition to their personal contributions, they are raising donations through the crowdfunding page provided by Room to Read, leveraging corporate matching, and utilizing their hobbies and skills such as musical performances to gather donations. They are committed to achieving this goal.

私の曾祖母は文盲でした。小学校を卒業することもなく、生涯、専門職に就くこともありませんでした。反対に、私の母はインドネシア随一の大学を卒業し、食品分野の博士号を取得し、現在は会社経営者です。曾祖母と母の運命を分けたのは、識字教育へのアクセスでした。私は東京マラソンを通じて、より多くの低所得コミュニティの子ども達が識字教育を受けられるように支援し、彼らが最高の機会を得られるようにしたいと思っています。
“My great grandmother was illiterate. She did not finish elementary school nor find any professional job for the rest of her life. On the contrary, my mother has a PhD. She graduated from the #1 ranked university in Indonesia. She became an expert in her field and now runs a food business. What differentiates the fates of my great grandmother and my mother was access to literacy education. I would like to help more children in poverty to have access to literacy education so they can have the best opportunities.”

「自分の力で社会をより良くしたい」という想いから、初めてのマラソン応募を決意しました。ルーム・トゥ・リードについては会社からの紹介で知りました。活動に感銘を受け、低所得コミュニティの子どもの教育支援や男女平等の機会提供に寄付を選びました。学生時代から教育格差に意識を向け、離島での教育支援ボランティアの経験を通じて教育の地域差を実感しました。日本はジェンダーギャップ指数の低い国で、私自身日常生活において男社会であることを感じることは多々ある中、世界を見ると女性として生まれたが故に十分な教育すら受けられない子どもがいると思うととても胸が痛くなります。今回の挑戦を通じて、微力ながらそのような子どもの人生を豊かにできるようチャリティランナーとして貢献したいです。
“With the desire to “contribute to making society better through my own efforts,” I made the decision to apply for my first marathon. I learned about Room to Read through an introduction from my company. Impressed by their activities, I chose to donate to support the education of children in communities facing deep education inequalities and to provide opportunities for gender equality. Since my student days, I’ve been aware of educational disparities and through my experience volunteering for educational support on remote islands, I’ve realized the regional differences in education. While Japan has a low gender gap index, I often feel the male-dominated nature of society in my daily life. However, when I look at the world, it pains me deeply to think that there are children who, just because they were born as girls, can’t even receive sufficient education. Through this challenge, I want to contribute as a charity runner, even in my own small way, to enriching the lives of such children.”
